Home Remedies Hives Urticaria

Hives, called urticaria by the medical profession, is a skin condition that is characterized by sudden outbreaks of red, itchy welts on the skin. Any area of the body may be affected. The welts may vary in appearance, from tiny, goosebump-like spots to rashes that cover significant areas of the body. Hives usually go away within a few hours to two days, but in rare cases they become chronic and may last for six weeks or more. Home remedies hives urticaria can greatly reduce the time of the outbrake.

Many cases of hives are brought on as allergic reactions and coincide with the release of histamine in the body. The release of histamine into the skin produces an inflammatory reaction, with itching, swelling, and redness. Hives can cause significant discomfort, but it does not cause injury or damage to any vital organs. However, home remedies for hives urticaria help also improve the immune system.

The skin is the largest organ of the body. It is an important part of the excretory system. The skin acts in conjunction with other systems in the body to remove toxins and waste. Hives can be a natural reaction to the presence of a foreign substance in the body. However, an offending substance need not enter the body to trigger an outbreak of hives. Home remedies for hives urticaria can treat the skin naturally.

Merely coming into contact with various substances, such as pesticides, soaps, shampoos, hair sprays, residues from laundry products or dry cleaning chemicals on clothing, or any other of a vast array of other seemingly innocuous household items can unleash a maddening attack of hives.
The severity of a hives outbreak can vary from case to case as well as from person to person. Some people can break out in hives if they merely touch a certain type of plant or bush; others may develop hives only with considerable exposure, such as overconsumption of a certain food. Chemicals are a major cause of hives for many people; anything from perfumes to household cleaners can trigger a reaction, as can nervous conditions, stress, certain foods, and alcohol.

Viruses also can cause hives. Hepatitis B and Epstein- Barr virus, the virus that causes infectious mononucleosis, are the two most common culprits. Some bacterial infections likewise can cause outbreaks of hives, both chronic and acute. An association between Candida albicans and chronic hives has been established in several clinical studies over the past twenty years.

Find the trigger for your hives is one short term solution. But to cure your hives is the best long term one.

Natural methods are the way forward in my opinion.

    Dear sir,

I’m suffering from urticaria since last 1 and 1/2 year, currently I’m settled in saudi but originally from india, please advise me some treatment

Try to get to the root cause, it has to be an allergic reaction to something. I had my son tested for allergies, and mold was one of them, then noticed a pattern that he would get hives after breakfast every morning but and last all day, but when he woke up first thing in the morning, minimal hives. So I kept thinking it was a food, so it took me forever to figure it out. Our screened in porch had some mold spots in a few areas, and every morning he would play there while I was making breakfast. Once we stopped letting him go on that porch, hives went away, after 2 months of chronic, constant hives. Herbs and other remedies will only cover up the symptoms, but continuing to expose yourself to whatever is causing the reaction will continue to cause damage in your body, even if you don’t see the immediate symptoms, aka hives. Change your diet completely for a while, go away for the weekend to see if it’s something in your house that you are reacting to, change all your detergent, soap, and other cosmetics, perfume, etc

I have had urticaria, hives and welting for over three years now. A battery of tests showed I was not allergic to anything. I was told to just wait is out, it would go away eventually. So far it has not.

What can I use for a 1 year old. My son started a breakout after a spider bite that I covered with medical tape (to keep Activated charcoal on) to which he had a horrible reaction, bright red where the tape was and hives all around the area. It has been about a month now and they are not going away. If I give him zeroed or benadryl they go away, used to be for 36 hours, now it’s only 24 hours. I hate putting that much chemical stuff in his little body. He is off dairy, never had wheat, had him allergy tested and he was positive for peanuts, Eggs, spinach and mold. He is taking a daily probiotic. Please help

I’ve been dealing with hives since 2001. I get it really bad with angiodema too. Doctors and specialist have no clue and I’ve taken matters into my own hands. I’ve experimented for years and this is the first time I have gotten it under control quickly. I drink apple cider vinegar 4tx a day. I drink 1packet of Emergen-C with a teaspoon of Organic Sulfur Crystal. Drink plenty of Water. No process foods, no Sugar, No dairy, No wheat! And always use acidophilus and digestive Enzymes. If you know you break out in hives from Anxiety as many people do, drink 2 cups of Lemon Balm tea. This has helped me tremendously. I’ve been on steroids for over 10yrs and No one Doctor has ever given me relief. I’ve been on every single histamine medication on the market even asthma medications, anxiety medications, depression medications, immunosuppressants, etc. nothing has helped me until I started going Alternative meds and healing. I also meditate twice a day. Try it anything is better than Steroids and Hives!!!!! Hope it helps. If you can check out the documentary Fat, sick and nearly dead. Blessings to everyone of you and may you all find a Cure to what’s causing your ailments.

Hello–your post is from last year but I have just come across it as I have been battling chronic hives now since March and googling and looking for help. Your battle sounded much like mine. Are you any better? When you did the natural remedies did you also continue with your prescribed medication? I have been on prednisone now since March (on and off) and a cocktail of so many OTC meds it is ridiculous. Have also been having Xolair injections which were to be my savior. Hives went away but have come back. Going for a second opinion but am so discouraged. Thank you.

      • Charlene, I am in the same boat you are. it’s so miserable and prednizone is killing my skin and I’ve gained 16 pds. I have been offered the Xolair injection but it has so many bad side effects that I figured I would just stick with prednizone which is equally as bad. Any new ideas that have helped?

        • Crystal

Most doctors wont try and find the root cause. Instead they pump you with medications that are doing more harm than good. I have had chronic hives for over 10 years. I suggest that all of you request a stool test. I did this and found out I had bacteria living in my gut.

    • marlene, I have been suffering with angioedema now for 6 months and I’m miserable. I get wheals the size of cantaloupes. I’m on prednizone, Claritin (4x day) and Tagamet (2x day). I want to go off steriods but hives come back when I go off. I am going to try your concoction. I pray it works. Are you still hive free? thanks.

    • Con

      Hi Melissa,

Have you heard of a drug called KETOTIFEN?
I’m not sure where you are located (country)
I was diagnosed by my allergist with chronic Urticaria (HIVES)
I was then referred to obtain this drug from a New Zealand pharmacist as it not available in Australia due to bureaucratic reasons.

Ketotifen 1mg tablets 1 day for a period of 2 months
and I’ve been in total control of my hive outbreak!

      good luck.
      Con

Hi I’ve been getting urticaria on and off since last year battled for 4 months went away slowly but now its back don’t know what caused it to start. Don’t want to take cortisone again what can I do to get rid of it naturally

  • Sri

For the past 2 yrs Iam suffering from urtacaria taking antihistamine is there any remedy other than these drug some natural remedies….pls suggest..thanks in advance

  • TV

I took Benadryl for 20+ years as a sleep aide, I recently stopped taking it and break out in terrible hives when anything touches my skin. I’m thinking that the Benadryl has been blocking my histamines for so many years, my body over produced to compensate, so now there is nothing blocking the histamines, my body is being flooded. I’m miserable, but refuse to got back to the root of the cause, so I’m not taking any antihistamines. I’m trying the natural route. Despite what I’ve read about avoiding heat, really hot showers are the only thing that gives my body instant relief for hours at a time. I hope my body will regulate itself soon. It’s been 2 months since I stopped Benadry.
