Home Remedies For sunburn
Sunburn is the skin's response to overexposure to the ultraviolet
(UV) rays of the sun. The skin becomes pink or red and may feel
tight and dry. It may become sore and swell with inflammation.
In severe cases, the skin may blister and peel. Although sunburned
skin often turns into a suntan, it is important to remember that
anytime the skin burns or tans, it has suffered damage. Sunburns,
particularly severe ones, can predispose a person to developing
skin cancer later in life.
SUNBURN HELPFUL TREATMENTS
When it comes to sunburn, prevention and precaution are more
important than treatment. Minimize exposure to the sun, especially
during the midday hours between 10:00 A.M. and 3:00 P.M., when
the sun is strongest. Apply a sunscreen to all exposed skin thirty
minutes before going outdoors. When swimming or exercising, reapply
sunscreen frequently. Cover as much of your body as possible with
protective clothing. Wear a hat and sunglasses that filter out
UV rays. After spending time in the sun, apply after-sun products
to reduce the drying effects the sun has on your skin.
If you do develop sunburn, home remedies can help relieve some
of the discomfort and minimize the damage to your skin. Chamomile,
eucalyptus, helichrysum, lavender, patchouli, and peppermint oils
are especially helpful for soothing sunburn pain and cooling burned
skin. Bathe in a Sunburn- Soothing Bath as soon as possible to
help draw out the heat from your sunburn. To relieve sunburn pain
and the dry, tight feeling, and to discourage peeling of the skin,
apply Lavender Sunburn Oil or Sunburn Relief Skin Oil to the affected
areas several times daily.
